What the resort will include

Frisco is getting closer to welcoming the Universal Kids Resort, a $550 million project set to open in 2026. Built on 97 acres at the Dallas North Tollway and Panther Creek Parkway, the park will feature themed areas based on family favorites like Shrek, Puss in Boots, Trolls, Gabby’s Dollhouse, SpongeBob SquarePants, Minions, and Jurassic World.

Themed play areas will be a big part of the experience. Early details show plans for a swamp-themed playground in the Shrek zone, a sensory garden in the Puss in Boots area, and an immersive retail experience designed around Gabby’s Dollhouse. A 300-room hotel is also under construction, with progress already visible on the third floor. Universal has partnered with Balfour Beatty Construction and Gensler to bring the project to life.

This will be Universal’s first park designed specifically for young families, joining the company’s roster of destinations in Orlando, Los Angeles, Japan, Singapore, and beyond.

What it means for Frisco

Frisco already attracts millions of visitors each year thanks to attractions like the Dallas Cowboys headquarters, PGA of America, FC Dallas, and the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Adding Universal Kids Resort will only increase that number, positioning the city as a major hub for family entertainment in North Texas.

The city has also been planning for the impact. Traffic concerns were addressed during zoning discussions, and new projects like the proposed Frisco Center for the Arts show how the area is preparing to handle even more tourism.

When it opens, the resort is expected to strengthen Frisco’s identity as a family-focused destination. Combined with other large-scale developments like Fields West and Firefly Park, it highlights the city’s strategy of building a long-term pipeline for young families and creating spaces designed for them.
