Excessive screen time has been linked to various health concerns, including sleep disturbances, mental health issues, and eye strain. Engaging with screens, especially before bedtime, can disrupt sleep patterns by suppressing melatonin production, leading to insomnia and daytime fatigue.

Prolonged screen use has also been associated with higher rates of depression and anxiety in both adults and children. A study from Ohio University noted that children using screens for seven hours daily were twice as likely to develop anxiety or depression compared to those with an hour or less of screen time. 

To mitigate these effects, experts recommend taking regular breaks from screens, especially during extended use. The 20-20-20 rule suggests looking at an object 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds every 20 minutes to reduce eye strain. 

Limiting screen exposure, particularly before bedtime, can improve sleep quality and overall well-being. Being mindful of screen time and incorporating regular breaks can help maintain both physical and mental health.
